Holiday Memories

I'm sure this time of year you will be reading a lot of posts and blogs about the holidays. Sorry, this one isn't any different, lol.

I want to talk about holiday memories...whether they be good, bad, happy or sad (wow, what a creative writer I am).

Twelve years ago my husband, two children and I moved to the quiet country life. Later that year we decided on another first, and that was getting a real tree. We did this for a couple of years, then about the third year we tried a different tree farm.

The drive wasn't far from home and like any other country drive, it was quite nice. We got out of the car and bundled up the kids...they were pretty young then...and met the nice gentlemen by the barn. We told him we were there to get a tree. He told us to stay put for a minute. The next thing we knew he walked out of the barn with a llama. Yes, I said a llama. City folk as we were...we were like...okay, what do you want us to do with the llama? He told us to go on out, find a tree, cut it down, attach the rope to it (which was hooked to the llama's harness) "and she'll know what to do."

So, we set off, found our tree, and did as the man instructed. As soon as the tree was fastened to the harness, off the llama went. She walked back to the barn without us saying a word.

A holiday memory we will never forget. Unfortunately, we did not have a camera on us, but it will be etched in our hearts and minds.

I hope you and yours have wonderful memories to share and many more to come. Happy Holidays and best wishes for the New Year.

  1. A lama? Hmmm. I've heard of mules doing that and oxen and maybe burros. But lamas? I guess if you've got a spare lama around you have to find something to do with it!

  2. Oh, that's awesome. I love llamas. When we lived in NYC we'd occasionally see a man walking his llama through the streets (usually in the really 'off' hours *g*). The first time, it was absolutely surreal.

Too bad it wasn't a reindeer, though. That would have been absolutely classic! Ooh, maybe your farmer could do a Scrooged and fix his llama up with fake antlers...no staples though. ;)

  3. My father would take us out in the country to cut one down. They were typical southern pines, never full but more like a Charlie Brown tree.

  5. I love the llama!!! One year we decided to cut down our own tree. The trees were all 30 feet high and we only wanted the top 6 feet, and it was hard to judge which was best. We struggled to cut down 2 trees and then didn't like them. We ended up taking home someone else's reject, it was better than the ones we cut down!

  6. I've never gone out and cut down a real Christmas tree... but if there was a llama to pull it I would so go just for that! (and why are there two L's in llama anyway?!)
