Friday Book Club: New-To-You Series

It's series time, or more specifically new-to-you series time!

We've all had recommendations from friends, seen other (readers, bloggers, authors) talk about new series they've discovered. Finding an awesome new author coupled with a nice backlist to glom, and a series that let's you go back to the same world and characters that you fell in love with in book one, and you've got the holy trinity of bookworm dreams.

That recurring bad boy, or crazy best friend, the mysterious neighbor, or quirky in-law always making you laugh out loud. Dark worlds, small towns, historical re imaginings, weddings that go awry. These are just some of the things are what we love about a series.

Oh and did I mention getting to revisit the couple you loved in books 1 and 3? Or finally discovering what big secret everyone seems to know but you?

So what about you guys? What do you love about series books? What draws you in and has you devouring book after book? What are your favorite series? And most importantly, what new-to-you series have you fallen in love with lately?

I'm working my way through Grace Burrowes' Lonely Lords series. Only just discovered her a few months ago and I love her stuff. I'm taking the whole series to RWA on my Kindle (will read on the plane if nowhere else).

I'm reading Roxanne St. Claire's Barefoot series, and loving it. I'm on Zoe's story now. I always thought she wrote romantic suspense, but these are fun contemporaries.

Some of you know I've been on a Kristen Ashley kick and she has several "series". They've got everything you mentioned and more, because some characters appear in OTHER SERIES even! And it totally makes sense.

At the moment I'm reading Elle Kennedy's Hotter than Ever, part of her SEAL Out of Uniform series - also a great series with fun characters, hot guys, sexy California setting.

I'm up to book 3 in Katie Porter's Vegas series. Loving them! Really dirty-hot but emotional, too.

A good book takes you away to another world--the world of the author's imagination. A series just expands on that world and gives you more to love. I adore series. My newest fave series, by one of my favorite authors, is one I can't even talk about because it's not published yet. Ah, critiquing. I do love your perks.

But I assume we're not counting trilogies as series? Because both Kelly and Kate have new trilogies out/almost out that are killer.

Y'know, I haven't started a new series in a while. My fave series of all time is the Discworld universe -over 20 and counting - followed closely by the Vorkosigan novels by Louis McMaster Bujold. I think Miles Vorkosigan is one of the most 3 dimensional characters in all literature, which is probably why I've never developed Series Fatigue with these books.

I'd count a trilogy as a 3 book series!

Well, there ya go then. :) So the new series (that other people can actually enjoy now) that I've been enjoying lately are Kate Davies "Girls Most Likely To" trilogy, Kelly Jamieson's San Amaro trilogy, Erin's spin-off series, Counting on Love, that I keep forgetting is actually a NEW series. Meg's Medium trilogy, Kay Berrisford's Green Wood series and Stacy Gail's Earth Angels series.

Whew. No wonder I'm getting next to no writing done.
